Reginald Punnett

Reginald Crundall Punnett (born June 20, 1875 in Tonbridge , Kent , † January 3, 1967 in Bilbrook , Somerset ) was a British geneticist .

Live and act

In 1898 he completed his studies in zoology at the Gonville and Caius College , Cambridge, successfully although he originally wanted to study medicine there. After graduating, he stayed at that college. In 1905 he discovered the linked inheritance of genes . Together with William Bateson he founded the Journal of Genetics in 1910 .

Punnett became the first Arthur Balfour Professor of Genetics at Cambridge after Bateson left university in 1912. In the same year Punnett also became a member of the Royal Society . In 1922 he received the Darwin Medal from the Royal Society. In 1940 he retired.
