Bernard Tschumi
Bernard Tschumi (born January 25, 1944 in Lausanne , Switzerland ) is an architect and architectural theorist with French and Swiss citizenship. He lives and works in the USA and France .
Life
Tschumi, son of the Swiss architect Jean Tschumi studied at the ETH Zurich until 1969 . From 1970 to 1979 he taught at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and from 1976 also at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York and at Princeton University .
He built several smaller experimental modular buildings, which he calls Folies , in the USA , England and the Netherlands before he emerged as a prize winner in the international competition for the Parc de la Villette in Paris in March 1983 . In 1986 he took second place in the international competition to build the Tokyo Opera House.
In 2012, Bernard Tschumi was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design in New York .
