Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies
The Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies (IAUS) in New York City is an institution that deals with architecture and urban planning.

The institute was founded in 1967 by a group of young architects, including Emilio Ambasz and Peter Eisenman , as a private, non-profit and independent institution dedicated to research, training and development in architecture and urban planning. At the beginning, the founders looked for alternatives to traditional forms of teaching and practice. The institute's first director was Peter Eisenman, followed by Anthony Vidler in 1982, Mario Gandelsonas in 1983, and Stephen Petersen in 1984. In 1985 the IAUS was temporarily closed.
Members of the institute include, for example, Peter Eisenman , Kenneth Frampton , Rem Koolhaas , Rafael Moneo , Christine Boyer , Toyo Ito , Bernard Tschumi , Frank O. Gehry , Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos .
The journal "Oppositions. A Journal for Ideas and Criticism in Architecture" was an important forum for discussion in architecture theory from 1973 to 1984.
