MuséoParc Alésia

The Muséoparc Alesia is a museum and exhibition center at Alise-Sainte-Reine in the Côte-d'Or department in the Région Burgundy in France . The center opened on March 23, 2012. It stands in the open field at the point where 52 BC. The battle of Alesia between the Roman army under Julius Caesar and the Gallic army under Vercingetorix took place.

The three-story building has a diameter of 52 meters. Its cylindrical shape is supposed to symbolize the encirclement of the Gauls by the Romans . The net-like larch beams in front of the fully glazed facade are reminiscent of the Roman siege and watchtowers. The roof terrace is planted with oaks and birches and offers a wide view of the surrounding hills on which the Roman armies camped. The architect was the Swiss Bernard Tschumi .

The conquest of Gaul by the Romans, the siege of Alesia and the conflict between Caesar and Vercingetorix are explained using films, dioramas , models, maps, antique objects and replicas of weapons and war machines.

At your disposal are audio guides , brochures and guide books in several languages. You can eat at a snack bar and a restaurant. Souvenirs and literature are available in a gift boutique or bookshop, and children are looked after in a toy library.

The outdoor area covers an area of ​​6500 m². The Roman siege rings were recreated in their original size over a length of 100 meters by the landscape architect Michel Desvigne. Troops dressed as Romans or Gauls demonstrate the respective fighting technique.
