Joachim Rosenow (born November 5, 1618 in Anklam ; † June 20, 1701 in Greifswald ) was a German professor of mathematics.

Life

Joachim Rosenow was the son of the Anklam brewer Michael Rosenow and Lucia Schröder. He grew up in the house of his grandmother, who also took care of the upbringing after his father's death. After his mother had married the Anklamer councilor Joachim Schröder, he was educated by private teachers and then came to the Stettin pedagogy .

In 1633 he went to the University of Greifswald , where he heard theological lectures from Bartholomäus Battus , Balthasar Rhaw and Abraham Battus , but also learned the basics of mathematics. After nine years of studying in Greifswald, Rosenow went to Königsberg , continued to attend theological lectures and studied with the mathematician Albert Linemann .

When he returned to Greifswald, Rosenow continued his studies with the support of the Wakenitzianum scholarship and in 1653 obtained his master's degree. In 1658 he became a full professor of mathematics. He was mainly concerned with astronomy, especially chronology .

In 1664 Joachim Rosenow married the widow Anna Justina Corswant († 1683) and in 1687 the widow Catharina Sperling. The marriages were childless.
