Johann Heunius

Johann Heun , also Heune (born February 18, 1603 in Wolgast , † June 7, 1672 in Greifswald ) was a German physician and rector of the University of Greifswald.

Life

Johann Heun was the son of the pharmacist Joachim Heun and the pastor's daughter Anna Neumann. After attending the school in Wolgast, he was sent to the city high school in Hamburg . From 1617 he studied medicine at the University of Greifswald with Johannes Sturm and philosophy with Laurentius Ludenius . After two years he went to Daniel Sennert in Wittenberg and to Sigmund Friedrich Sultzberger in Leipzig .

On an educational trip through Liège , the Netherlands, France and England, he received news of his father's death, which forced him to return in 1627. He continued his studies in Greifswald and passed the licentiate examination in medicine in 1630 . He became a court doctor in Wolgast and married Anna Papke, the daughter of a ducal council.

After the death of his wife, Heun went to Greifswald in 1640 and received the city ​​physics , the city medical officer. A year later he married Gertrud von Buckow (1620–1681). In 1642 Heun was appointed professor of medicine. He was elected rector of the university six times.

The Governor General Carl Gustav Wrangel awarded Heun in 1666 the dignity and income of a Camminer canon. In the same year he resigned from all offices.

Johannes Heune was buried in Greifswald's Nikolaikirche .
