Joachim Völschow
Joachim Völschow (born January 29, 1591 in Greifswald ; † February 17, 1664 ibid) was a German professor of law.
Life
Joachim Völschow was the son of Greifswald councilor Joachim Völschow (1550–1597) and his wife Sybilla Mevius (1562–1630), daughter of Thomas Mevius and sister of Friedrich Mevius .
In 1606 he moved to the University of Greifswald , but after the death of his father his mother sent him to Stettin to run the trading business there. His older brother Mövius Völschow changed his mother's mind , however, so that Joachim studied at the Stettiner Pedagogy for three years and was able to return to Greifswald around 1609 to study law. In 1614 he became the private secretary of Baron Erdmann von Putbus and in the following year accompanied his son as Ephorus through numerous universities and cities in Germany, Switzerland and France. He then visited Tübingen, Jena, Erfurt, Leipzig, Wittenberg and Rostock himself.
In 1621 he acquired the Licentia docendi (license to teach) at the Greifswald Faculty of Law and from then on offered lectures. In 1622 he received his doctorate in law. In 1623 Völschow received an extraordinary professorship in law.
In 1624 he married the professor's daughter Dorothea Wegner.
In 1630 Völschow had to flee Greifswald from the imperial troops and lost large parts of his property. After the end of the unrest, he was appointed to a full professorship in law by Duke Bogislaw XIV in 1636 and appointed consistorial director in 1637.
Joachim Völschow was buried in Greifswald's Nikolaikirche .
