Mövius Völschow

Mövius Völschow (born May 7, 1588 in Greifswald , † July 8, 1650 ibid) was a Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of Pomerania-Wolgast.

Live and act

Mövius Völschow was born as the son of the councilor and commissioner at St. Jakobi in Greifswald and his wife Sibylla Mewes. He attended the Greifswald city school , switched to the Sundisches Gymnasium in Stralsund in 1604 and to the Stettin pedagogy in 1606 . In 1610 he studied at the University of Wittenberg , where he received his master's degree , and then at the universities of Leipzig , Jena , Marburg and Gießen .

In 1612 he became professor of mathematics at the University of Greifswald . Duke Philipp Julius von Pommern-Wolgast called Völschow to the preposition in Bergen on Rügen , and in 1622 he became a preposition in Demmin . In 1626 he earned the degree of Doctor of Theology.

In 1642 Mövius Völschow became pastor at St. Nikolai in Greifswald and general superintendent in the Pommern-Wolgast area. He held these offices until his death in 1650.

Mövius Völschow married Ursula Fabricius († 1629), daughter of General Superintendent Jakob Fabricius , in 1615 , and Ilsabe von Krakevitz, daughter of his predecessor General Superintendent Barthold von Krakevitz , in 1631 .
