Johann Michaelis (theologian)
Johann Michaelis (born January 27, 1612 in Stralsund , † March 11, 1674 in Greifswald ) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Life
Johann Michaelis was the son of the businessman Peter Michaelis and Marie Scheele. From 1624 he received lessons at the Katharineum in Lübeck . He moved to the University of Königsberg in 1629 and the University of Rostock in November 1635 , where he studied philosophy, languages and theology. In between he was at the Wittenberg in 1635 . On May 11, 1637, he received his master's degree in Rostock. In 1641 he attended Leyden University , conducted rabbinical studies and studied Arabic .
In 1642 Michaelis went to Greifswald and became professor of eloquence the following year. In 1652 he received his doctorate in theology, in 1662 full professor of theology and received the associated pastorate at St. Jakobi . He was also assessor at the Royal Consistory .
Johann Michaelis was married to Barbara Bering (1618–1650) for the first time and to Jacobina Zeämann († 1684) the second.
