Battus came from a family that was expelled from Aalst to Germany because of their Protestant faith. His father Hans Batte was a businessman in Hamburg and had married Maria Kraker. Battus was first to become a businessman and had attended the writing school in his hometown. When he was nine years old, he moved into the academic school of the Johanneum in his hometown under the rector Werner Rolfinck the Elder . In 1594 he received his doctorate under the dean's office of Konrad Ebene as a master of philosophy. He then moved to the University of Wittenberg for a year and a half , taking a trip to Upper Germany and returning to Rostock in 1596 as a scholar theologian .
Bogislaw XIII. von Pommern appointed him in 1597 as professor of logic at the University of Greifswald , where in 1599 he succeeded Matthias Flegius as professor of theology . With that he took over the office of pastor at the St. Jacobikirche . After completing his theological doctorate in 1600 under Friedrich Runge, he was rector of the Alma Mater five times. As a theologian and academic teacher, he held office for 44 years and wrote a number of exegetical and dogmatic writings.
