Corswant , also Corswandt , plural, more rarely also the Corswanten , is the name of a German noble family from Western Pomerania .

The family first appears with Nykolaus Kuriswantz , who came to Greifswald in 1393 . The uninterrupted family line begins with Peter Corswant († 1507), councilor in Greifswald and 1501 assessor of the local court . The doctor of both rights Caspar Corswant (* 1634; † 1708), electoral Brandenburg government and court judge in the Duchy of Western Pomerania and the Principality of Kammin , and his brother Christoph Corswant († 1706), mayor of Greifswald, were appointed by Emperor Leopold I on November 11th Elevated to hereditary nobility in 1698. The imperial ennoblement was confirmed by King Friedrich I as Elector of Brandenburg on July 18, 1699.

Possessions

The family owned goods in the Anklam - Kadow district with Pertinenz Gramzow from 1754 to 1794.

In the Greifswald district there were possessions with Gribow (Gribow seems questionable), Kuntzow (from 1690 to 1945), Neuendorf bei Gützkow - (manor without dominal) with loan from 1602 and 1705 to 1865 (end of record) as pertinence to Kuntzow. In 1701 a Corswant came into the possession of Upatel - Greifswald district as a pledge until 1805. When Swedish border posts were to be relocated in 1729, the property of Gut Owstin was named for the Corswant , but it was pledged to the Corswants from 1660 to 1813. From 1748 to 1767 the family owned the Schulzenhof near Gützkow , then the property was dissolved by the Swedish "King Friedrich I himself on July 6th, 1767 " (Berghaus quote), although the contract ran until 1782. In Seckeritz near Wolgast they had possession of the goods from 1865 to 1912. From 1724 Otto von Corswant was named Pentin with the property , the property was notarized for Corswant until 1865. The Corswant were already wealthy in Kuntzow from 1690 until 1945. The last owner was the well-known ex-Gauleiter of the NSDAP (1925–1933) and district administrator (1936–1942) Walther von Corswant .

Since 1833 the Corswant were also wealthy in the Usedom-Wollin district , namely in Krummin . In the monastery church there you can still see the patron s box with the family coat of arms, which was attached during the extensive renovation of the church. How long the family owned there cannot be determined at the moment, Berghaus records end in 1865.
