Karl Friedrich von Corswant

Karl Friedrich von Corswant (* 1754 in Greifswald ; † June 6, 1824 in Pentin , Greifswald district ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and most recently the inspector of the reserve eskadons in Silesia.

His parents were Karl Friedrich Corswant (* October 19, 1714; † 1784) and his wife Beate Brigitte Emerentia von Engelbrechten (* December 2, 1723; † 1785). His father was a royal Swedish councilor and court judge at Greifswald.

Life

He went into Prussian service in 1769 and joined the Hussar Regiment No. 2 in Zieten . There he was cornet on May 23, 1770 and second lieutenant on June 17, 1776. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 , as well as in the campaign in Holland in 1787, where he received the Pour le Mérite for the battle near Amstelfeen . After that he was promoted quickly: on May 23, 1789 he was Premier-Lieutenant, on April 28, 1792 staff commander, on March 8, 1793 captain and squadron chief, on April 16, 1794 major. On May 24, 1804 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel before he was appointed colonel on May 28, 1806 in the run-up to the Fourth Coalition War .

After the war he received only half pay from September 24, 1807 . He was earmarked for re-employment and came on April 29, 1809 as a commander in the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment , which earned him a salary of 2,600 thalers and 6 rations. On February 16, 1810 he came to the Brandenburg Light Brigade as commander. On March 21, 1811 he was appointed major general and he was now a brigadier of the West Prussian cavalry, now with a salary of 2800 thalers and 8 rations. On April 1, 1812, he came to West Prussia as a depot for the non-mobile cavalry. On November 26, 1812, he was then a brigadier in the cavalry of the mobile army corps. On March 5, 1813, he joined the 1st Army Corps and Yorck as a brigadier. During the Wars of Liberation he fought at Großgörschen - where he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class - and at Bautzen - where he received the Iron Cross 1st Class . After that he still fought in the battle near Haynau and on May 19, 1813 he was able to distinguish himself again in the battle near Weissig, then on July 21, 1813 he was appointed inspector of the reserve escadons in Silesia. On June 2, 1814, he gave up his post, on May 5, 1815, he was again inspector. But already on May 31, 1815 he received his departure with the character of lieutenant general and a pension of 1,600 thalers. He died on June 8, 1824 on Pentin (Greifswald district).

He was married to Charlotte von Baerenfels-Warnow (* February 4, 1794, † April 15, 1820).
