Cruz Quebrada - Dafundo is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Oeiras with 6401 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011) on an area of ​​2.9 km². The population density is 2,194.9 inhabitants per km².

The parish was formed on June 11, 1993 by splitting up the Carnaxide parish . As can be deduced from the name, it consists of the villages of Cruz Quebrada and Dafundo as well as some smaller hamlets . The patron saint of the community is Senhor Jesus dos Aflitos ( the afflicted ).

Dafundo in literature

Almeida Garrett lived in the Rodízio winery, where he wrote the work “Folhas Caídas” (1853). Other comedies created here are “As Profecias do Bandarra” and “O Noivado no Dafundo”.

Aquilino Ribeiro lived in Cruz Quebrada, where he wrote some works.

José Maria Eça de Queiroz speaks in his books about Dafundo as a place with 'good air (..de bons ares ..)'. Examples are in

Personalities

The composer and publisher Alain Oulman (1928–1990) was born in Dafundo. He was the author of numerous fados for Amália Rodrigues .

Roberto Ivens (1850–1898), a Portuguese explorer and navigator, lived and died in Casa do Cedro no Dafundo . In 1884 he went on a 14-month expedition through the interior of Africa, from Angola to Mozambique, with Hernandogildo Augusto de Brito Capello . During the expedition, fossils, minerals and natural history were explored. After their return (September 16, 1885) they published the book De Angola à Contra-costa .
