The 1992 binding world championship was the 14th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from October 22nd to 25th, 1992 in Duisburg . It was the first binding World Cup in Germany.
history
For the first time, a World Cup was held in the set system, which is not very popular with the players. Due to various rounds of losers, the championship days sometimes lasted well after midnight. The final, won by Luxembourg's Fonsy Grethen against Peter de Backer from Belgium, lasted more than four hours. Frédéric Caudron , who was popular for the title before the tournament, surprisingly lost to his compatriot De Backer in the semifinals. Due to the double-knockout system, you could no longer win the title after a defeat. This was fatal for some Germans. In the end, Fabian Blondeel, Wolfgang Zenkner and Thomas Wildförster finished third to fifth at the home World Cup despite some very strong performances.
mode
The game was played in the double knockout system with 2 winning sets up to 75 points. The final was played with 3 winning sets. It was played without a kick-off.

Due to the decreased international interest, the 2014 World Cup will probably have been the last.
