Power snooker is a variant of the snooker billiards discipline .

Tournaments

On October 30, 2010, the Power Snooker Masters was presented for the first time as part of the Snooker Main Tour in the indigO2 -Arena in London (but without world ranking points ). The event was broadcast live by ITV4 and Eurosport .

It was announced quite quickly that more events would follow if the premiere was a success. One year later (2011) the tournament was continued as expected on November 19 and 20, this time in Manchester and with 16 participants.

regulate

The rules are the same as for snooker, but with the following changes:

  • Instead of 15 there are only 9 red balls, which are arranged as diamonds on the pink ball (the middle ball of the diamond is the so-called power ball ).
  • At the kick-off, at least 2 red balls must touch a board - similar to many pool versions. If this is the case, the kicking player may remain at the table; otherwise the opponent may sit at the table.
  • A match lasts 30 minutes. The time begins with the first contact with the red balls and stops when the last black ball of a frame is punched.
  • The player with the most points wins; the number of frames is irrelevant.
  • There is a time limit ( shot clock ) of 20 seconds per shot.
  • A time foul is punished with 20 foul points. The opponent can then take over or let the offender continue.
  • The specially marked middle red ball is the power ball , which already counts two points. If it is punched, all punched balls count twice for 2 minutes ( power play ). If the player misses during the Power Play, the opponent gets the remaining time.
  • The Baulk area - the roughly rectangular area between the upper gang and the Baulk line in the upper half of the table from which the break is performed and which also contains the D - is the Power Zone . If the cue ball is released from here, each punched ball counts twice (four times during Power Play). The referee will announce when a kick comes from the power zone.
  • A foul during power play is penalized with double foul points. If the foul happens during the power play and the cue ball is kicked out of the power zone, this foul is punished with four times the foul points.
  • After a foul, the opponent has the ball in hand in the entire power zone (not only in D as in normal snooker) and may place the ball in this area as desired.
  • Originally, a Century Break was rewarded with a 50 point bonus. If a century break was scored again in the following frame, the player received a bonus of 100 points and in the third frame in a row in which a century was scored, 200 points. With the Power Snooker Masters 2011 , however, this section was removed from the rules without comment.
  • If there is a tie at the end of a match (after 30 minutes) the match will be decided by a re-spotted black .
