Air University
The Air University is a training facility for the advanced training of officers and non-commissioned officers of the US Air Force , which is located at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base near Montgomery and reports to the Air Education and Training Command .
Montgomery has been a center of US aviation training since the Wright brothers founded the first civil aviation school. In the 1930s, the Army Air Corps moved its tactical training institute to Montgomery, which became Air University in 1946.
From its foundation to 1978 and from 1983 to 1993 the university had the status of a main command of the air force .
The university offers training for members of the US Air Force. A "pre-commissioning" is also possible, in which the university finances the college education of the candidate who is obliged to later serve in the Air Force. The university is also open to civilian Air Force personnel. The training focus is on imparting knowledge about the development, provision and application of air force units. Graduate programs provide degrees with academic, technological, and management backgrounds.
The various tasks and courses of study are carried out at the university by various training and excellence centers:
- Carl A. Spaatz Center for Officer Education
- Jeanne M. Holm Center for Officer Accessions and Civilian Development
- Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education
- Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education
- Ira C. Eaker Center for Professional Development
