Kōya Ogata (* approx. 1915 in Japan ; † unknown) was a Japanese carom player in the disciplines of cadre and three cushion .
Career
Little is known about Ogata. He began his career with the classic disciplines free game and cadre , later played Penthatlon (free game, cadre (2 variants), cover and three- cushion ) and then stayed with three-cushion. In 1965 he was the first Asian player to take part in the three-cushion world championships. He was able to win a bronze medal straight away and only had to admit defeat to the Belgian Raymond Ceulemans and Johann Scherz from Austria, but played the tournament record of 13 in the top series (HS). In 1966 only the thankless 4th place remained for him, in 1968 in Düren and in 1969 , in front of a home crowd in Tokyo , he took part again and was, each time beaten by Ceulamans, vice world champion.
Ogata took part in the Cadre 47/2 World Championships for the first time in 1967 , but only finished eighth, when he participated again in 1973 he came second to last in seventh place.
In 1949 Ogata was the first Japanese three- cushion champion with a general average (GD) of 0.856. By 1968 he won this title a total of 15 times and was then replaced by Nobuaki Kobayashi .
