The local organizer and host on behalf of the German Billiards Association (DBB) was the "BC Kickser" Gladbeck-Brauck. The local sports hall was chosen as the venue, with its grandstands providing the appropriate equipment.
Dieter Müller , who was surprisingly eliminated in the preliminary round in Hamburg last year, played confidently and reached the final round as the group first with a general average (GD) of 0.882. Last year's surprise runner-up Jürgen Sedello from Bochum presented a negative this time when he lost to his club-mate Edgar Bettzieche and Gert Tiedtke from Koblenz. A subsequent victory against Josef Bücken could not save him from retirement either. Defending champion Günter Siebert from Hattingen won his group undefeated with a GD of 0.829, Hans-Jürgen Kühl finished second, who was one lap ahead. Dieter Häring let himself be won a draw, but still got through as second in the group, Josef Bücken from group two was tied with Jürgen Sedello and Edgar Bettzieche, but made it through with the best GD.
The final round was also played in round robin mode, with the exception that group encounters were not repeated. The first in the group certainly won their games against the second in the group. Gert Tiedtke lost both games against Siebert and Müller, so it was clear that the Hattinger had to defend his title against Müller. Siebert was ahead of the last round and the game against Müller in the GD, but did not get into the game against the Berliner, who won the game with 60:15 in only 42 shots, gave Siebert the worst tournament result and the tournament record in the GD of 1,428 put up. Two shots less and Müller would have broken the German record for the best individual average (BED) and GD. The Berliner had won the title back from Siebert.
mode
The number of participants was again reduced to 12 players compared to the previous year and divided into three groups of four players. The game system was also retained from the previous year, distance game on 60 points, everyone against everyone. The two best in the group made it to the final round, also everyone against everyone, without a separate final or game for 3rd place. The final placement was based on the match points (MP). The entire tournament was played with a push .
Games against group opponents were not played again (Siebert / Kühl; Tiedtke / Bücken; Müller / Häring).
