The German Three Cushion Championship 1960 (DDM) was the 27th edition of this tournament series and took place from November 12th to 15th, 1959 in Cologne , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

For the fifth time, Cologne was chosen as the venue. After Ernst Rudolph did not take part in the previous championship, this time his billiard room was the venue for the event. The organizer was the "Cologne Billiards Club 1908" on the Hohenzollernring. It offered space for around 400 spectators, who could sit on raised seats and offer everyone a good view. In addition to the print media, radio and television ( Tagesschau and Regionalschau) were also represented this time and reported, often “live”, of the events. Cologne's Lord Mayor Theo Burauen had taken on the patronage and donated an honorary award.

Serial winner August Tiedtke was able to secure his 16th title. Rudolph finished second in the tournament for the third time. August Tiedtke was the opponent every time. This time, however, he needed a game against Rudolph to get the title. According to the regular schedule, it was 12: 2 for both players. Tiedtke had lost his fifth game against last placed Joseph Bücken with 52:60 in 81 shots. In the stabbing game he then prevailed against Rudolph with 60:43 in 72 shots. Third place went to runner-up Rudolf Apelt from Berlin, who was able to place himself in the table ahead of Siegfried Spielmann from Düsseldorf . The championship newcomer Günther Delbrouck from Krefeld , who played on the left, delivered a good tournament performance and was able to stand out against the "old hands" Kurt Hartkopf ( Solingen ) and Josef Bücken. The three-time runner-up in 1951, 1955 and 1957, Walter Lütgehetmann , did not take part in the tournament again.

Unlike the usual Tiedtke, this time Rudolph took home the tournament records in the individual (ED) and general average (GD).

mode

It played "everyone against everyone" ( round robin mode ) to 60 points with a push .
