Josef Ahammer

Josef Ahammer (born May 18, 1935 in Neukirchen, Altmünster , † July 30, 2017 in Linz ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest . From 1982 to 2003 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Linz .

Life

After graduating from the Linzer Kollegium Petrinum in 1955 , he entered the seminary of the Diocese of Linz and studied philosophy and Catholic theology . He received on June 29, 1960 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Linz by Franz Zauner the priesthood . After his time as chaplain in Rainbach and Linz - Urfahr , he worked as a diocesan chaplain for the Catholic youth group and the scouts. From 1961 to 1976 he was state curate of the Upper Austrian scouts.

In 1974 Ahammer became head of the secretariat of the pastoral and priest councils as well as the conference of deans in the episcopal ordinariate in Linz. Shortly afterwards he took over the care of the mission vacationers and the development workers of the working group World Church and Development Funding WEKEF (today: Welthaus). As a diocesan youth chaplain, he also took over the Three Kings Action of the Austrian Bishops' Conference. From 1977 to 2008 he was President of the Austrian Mission Transport Working Group (MIVA). In addition, he was in the pastoral care of the Linz parish Leonding-Hart-St. Johannes (since 1974) and in the parish Linz-St. Magdalena (1976-2011).

On 19 January 1982 he became a member of the Linz Cathedral Chapter , which he chairs than in 2003 provost accepted. On April 21, 1982, Bishop Maximilian Aichern appointed Ahammer Vicar General of the Diocese of Linz and thus Alois Wagner's successor . In 2003 Maximilian Mittendorfer succeeded him as Vicar General and Ahammer was appointed Episcopal Vicar for orders, secular institutes and spiritual communities on September 1, 2003 by Diocesan Bishop Maximilian Aichern . Between 2003 and 2014 he was provost at the head of the Linz cathedral chapter. In addition, from 2003 to 2016 he was house director at the Bishop's Court in Linz as well as the Bishop's Commissioner for the Franciscan Sisters and the Elisabethines in Linz, where he lived to the end.

Josef Ahammer was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1987 he was appointed Commander-in-Chief by Maximilien de Fürstenberg , Cardinal Grand Master of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem , and invested in the Papal Order on October 10, 1987 in Graz by Abbot Gebhard Koberger , Grand Prior of the Lieutenants in Austria. From 1987 to 2003 he was prior of the Linz Commandery.

Ahammer is buried in the grave of the Linz cathedral chapter in the St. Barbara cemetery in Linz.
