Pierre-Paulin Andrieu
Pierre-Paulin Cardinal Andrieu (born December 7, 1849 in Seysses , France , † February 15, 1935 in Bordeaux ) was a French clergyman and archbishop of Bordeaux .
Life
Pierre-Paulin Andrieu studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary of Toulouse and was ordained a priest in 1874 . After a few months as a parish chaplain, in 1875 he became the personal secretary of the Archbishop of Toulouse. From 1880 to 1901 he headed the administration of the Archdiocese of Toulouse as vicar general .
In 1901 Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Marseille . He was ordained bishop on July 25, 1901, by the then Archbishop of Toulouse, Jean-Augustin Germain . On December 16, 1907, Pope Pius X accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Onofrio in the College of Cardinals and appointed him two years later Archbishop of Bordeaux. Pierre-Paulin Andrieu went down in French history as a strict representative of anti-modernism with several publications. He died on February 15, 1935 in Bordeaux and was buried in the cathedral there.
