Hermann Bendix
Hermann Bendix (born April 22, 1859 in Damgarten ; † June 1, 1935 there ) was a German pedagogue , cantor and composer .
Life
Hermann Bendix was born on Good Friday 1859 as the son of the Damgarten cantor and teacher Gustav Bendix. He attended school in his hometown and was supposed to become a teacher. After the confirmation he attended the seminar in Franzburg , where he already distinguished himself through his strong musical ability. He got his first job as a teacher in Zingst . Here he led the choral society, founded the church choir and also did organist services . Then he attended the Royal Academic Institute for Church Music in Berlin and graduated as a music teacher at higher educational institutions, as an organist and choir conductor. In 1887, as the successor to his father, he received the teaching post at the school and the related post as cantor and organist at the church in Damgarten. In addition, he devoted himself to city history and literature.
In 2012, “Kantor-Bendix-Straße” was dedicated to Hermann Bendix in his home town of Damgarten.
Services
As a teacher, Hermann Bendix worked on the music book for Pomeranian schools Mein Sanggesell and on the singing primer for Pomerania . His commitment to village and small-town choir education and to educational reforms is reflected in various lectures that he gave, for example, on October 1, 1909, on the occasion of the first general meeting of the Pomeranian Cantors and Organists Association in Stralsund. His topic was the church choir according to its importance, maintenance and promotion with special consideration of the village and small town conditions (the lecture was also published in print).
As a composer, he mainly created organ and harmonium music, which became quite popular in northern Germany. He also wrote choral and instrumental music, piano and folk songs. He set also Low German poems by Helmuth Schroeder and the two complaints songs of Fritz Worm : From the blue ocean waters and complaints, expensive home . His piano music (mostly easy to moderately difficult salon compositions) was published in numerous print editions and was widely distributed.

Young pianists and their teachers are most fortunate to have so much lovely new repertoire to explore. ”(“ These two salon pieces will delight all advanced piano students who are not yet able to master Chopin's great polonaises, but who play these dance styles nonetheless The polonaise is in C sharp minor with a contrasting middle section in A major and is determined by dense chords in the left hand, which clarify its texture, while the mazurka is a little shorter and simpler and with a much lighter structure is appealing expressive melody underlaid.
