Fritz Worm (born July 11, 1863 in Barth ; † August 3, 1931 in Alt Reddevitz ) was a German teacher and local poet.

Life

Fritz Worm was born in Barth as the eleventh child of the master turner Ferdinand Worm. After attending the elementary school in Barth from 1870, he completed a teaching degree. In 1884 he passed the first teacher examination at the teacher training seminar in Pölitz near Stettin . He then worked from 1884 to 1886 as a primary school teacher in Niepars . In 1890 the second teacher examination followed in Franzburg . Until 1892 he taught in the village school and at the castle of Karnin . Because of his “rebellious” attitude - an article about the poor living conditions of teachers in the country, which had appeared in the Stralsunder Zeitung , had been linked to him - he was “punished” in the autumn of 1892 in Alt Reddevitz on the Rügen peninsula Mönchgut ". He liked it there so much that he lived there until his death. He retired on October 1, 1928.

He was buried on August 6, 1931 in the Middelhagen cemetery .

Services

One of the achievements of Worms was his extensive output of Low German literature in the form of poems, stories, homeland books and plays. In 1895 he created the humoresque För Old and Jung .

He also dealt with soil science. The director of the Stralsund Museum, Rudolf Bayer , looked for Worm's first publications in the Rügen Kreisblatt on prehistoric finds, the Worm, who had been completely inexperienced in technical issues, and explained to him the possibilities of distinguishing pieces that have been processed by humans from purely natural products. Together with the senior judge Ribbentrop from Braunschweig , he carried out search excavations in the Mönchgut in order to find urns or other artefacts in prehistoric grave complexes. After several unsuccessful attempts, he managed to find an urn on the Bakenberg near Alt Reddevitz.

He later handed over his numerous finds to the University of Greifswald . His bedeutendster Fund was a Duke grave called passage grave from the Neolithic period (about 4000 years old) with valuable grave goods, which he on the way between Göhren discovered and Alt Reddevitz. Based on a legend, Worm had searched for the grave in the Mönchguter Forest. The excavation was carried out by the University of Greifswald from 1920.

Fritz Worm was very committed to the preservation of Mönchguter customs and the Low German language. In 1898 he was co-founder of the Göhrener Strandtheater, until 1902 he published the weekly "De truge Husfründ". He published collections of monk good sagas and anecdotes. In 1903 he was one of the founding members of the Mönchguter teachers' association, of which he was later made an honorary member. In 1908 he was a founding member of the local group for the preservation of Mönchguter folk costumes. In 1928 he was awarded the badge of honor for services in Western Pomerania . On December 19, 1930 he was appointed elder in the parish council of the parish of Middelhagen.

In his hometown Barth, in Putbus on Rügen and in Baabe on the Mönchgut streets were named after him. A boulder in front of the Lobber Ort , the Fritz-Worm-Stein got its name.
