Life

Ambros Seelos was born in Töging in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting as the fifth of seven children. He completed his training as a plumber , but also learned the clarinet . After completing his apprenticeship, he studied classical clarinet at the University of Classical Music in Munich. Seelos financed his studies by playing with Paul Würges in a rock 'n' roll band in Northern Band style from 1956 .

In 1958 he founded the septet Jokers together with Hansl Bauer . The Ambros Seelos Orchestra emerged in 1960, initially as a septet with a mixed wind section (trumpet, trombone, two saxophones, piano, bass and drums) and later with ten musicians and a singer. The first concert took place in Luxembourg, where the band was hired due to the many offers that Ambros Seelos himself wrote on a portable typewriter.

This was followed by engagements in dance and entertainment venues all over Europe, plus tours with Freddy Quinn , Chubby Checker and Lou van Burg . In Naples there was a three-month guest performance in the officers' club at NATO headquarters and on two US aircraft carriers. On tours in Sweden, Seelos appeared on stage with Count Basie and Louie Bellson and often appeared in television shows. He also recorded several groove jazz records for the MPS label , including the 1968 album Fire with the famous song Swingle Beat .

The Ambros Seelos Show Band was the ball orchestra in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich. At the Madame Ball he appeared with Ella Fitzgerald .

In the 1970s and 1980s, Seelos toured Asia. Manila, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Bombay, Djakarta, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates were stops during this time. In the early 1980s he was involved in setting Helmut Zöpfl's poems to music . From the end of the 1980s, there were also engagements on cruise ships (with Karel Gott , Roberto Blanco , Margot Werner , Andreas Hauff and Edith Prock , among others ), and in March 1996 the Europa set sail for the seventh time. Kristina Bach , Billy Mo and Henry Arland were accompanied on this trip .

Most recently Ambros Seelos lived with his wife in Mettenheim (Upper Bavaria). In 2011, Seelos suffered multiple broken elbows in a fall and was no longer able to play an instrument. He spent the last days before his death in the Caritas house in Mühldorf am Inn . He left three sons in addition to his wife.
