Hartmut Bossel (born March 3, 1935 in Braunschweig ) is a German environmental researcher and systems scientist .

Live and act

Hartmut Bossel graduated from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering specializing in aerospace engineering . He then worked for the Northrop Corporation in Los Angeles until 1963 and then became a research assistant at the University of California Berkeley , where he received his Ph. D. in engineering in 1967 . From 1967 to 1972 he was Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California Santa Barbara . He is a member of the Balaton Group .

After his return to Germany (1972) he worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Karlsruhe and from 1978 at the Institute for Systems Research and Forecasting (ISP Eduard Pestel ) in Hanover. In 1979 he was appointed professor at the University of Kassel . Until 1997 he was professor for environmental systems analysis and head of the Scientific Center for Environmental Systems Research (CESR).

The report Energie-Wende published by him, Florentin Krause and Karl-Friedrich Müller-Reissmann in 1980 - growth and prosperity without crude oil and uranium is one of the first works that brought the term energy transition into public discussion.

Hartmut Bossel has been married since 1961 and has three children.

Scientific work

Bossel has been conducting system studies and computer simulations on questions of sustainability in the areas of energy supply , global development dynamics and agricultural and forestry development since 1972 . He examines simulation models of complex dynamic systems, social change and future developments.

Bossel completed several research stays abroad, including in the USA, France, the Soviet Union, China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and New Zealand.
