Robert Conrad (born March 1, 1935 as Konrad Robert Falkowski in Chicago , Illinois - † February 8, 2020 in Malibu , California ) was an American actor .
Life and accomplishments
Conrad was raised by his grandmother after his mother's second marriage. He graduated from Northwestern University .
The first film role mentioned in the credits, Conrad played in the drama Thundering Jets by Helmut Dantine from 1958. He became known to the American television audience from 1959 through his leading role as Tom Lopaka in the crime series Hawaiian Eye . From 1965 to 1969, he played his best-known role as Secret Service agent James T. West in the TV series Crazy Wild West . In the western The Lawless (1967) he took on one of the leading roles, he also worked as a director and screenwriter.
Conrad was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1978 for portraying the aviator hero Gregory Boyington in the television series Pazifikgeschwader 214 (1976) . In the action film Sudden Death (1977) he took the lead role, he had another lead role in the gangster film The Woman in Red from 1979. In the black comedy Flames on the Horizon (1982), he played a larger role alongside Sean Connery . Conrad was last seen in the film Dead Above Ground in 2002 . His oeuvre includes 80 film and television productions.
Private
Conrad was married to Joan Kenlay from 1952 to 1983, with whom he had five children. In 1983 he married Fann LaVelda, with whom he has three children. He lived in Bear Valley , California until he moved to Southern California with his second wife and their children in 2006 . Some of his children work as actors. Conrad was a half-brother of actor Larry Manetti , with whom he played in Pacific Wing 214 . Conrad had been friends with the mobster Michael Peter Spilotro since his youth , who, with the help of Manetti, got a brief appearance on the television series Magnum .
In 2003, while drunk, Conrad caused a serious car accident in which the other driver was seriously injured. Conrad, who was seriously injured himself, was given six months of house arrest. The actor died of heart failure on February 8, 2020 at the age of 84.
