Heinz Schemken (born March 11, 1935 in Velbert ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

After primary school , Heinz Schemken completed an apprenticeship in a craft business between 1949 and 1952. In 1958 he passed the master's examination as an art and building fitter, five years later he became a trainer in the community training workshop in Velbert, a non-profit association for vocational training and further education, of which he was also managing director from 1969 to 2007. He is widowed and has three children.

Political party

Schemken has been a member of the CDU since 1961. From 1964 to 1969 he was chairman of the Junge Union district of Mettmann, between 1977 and 1990 chairman of the CDU in the district of Mettmann , from 1982 to 1985 member of the state board of the CDU Rhineland and from 1986 chairman of the CDU district association Bergisch-Land.

Heinz Schemken was deputy mayor from 1963 to 1964 and 1984 to 1989 , and from 1969 to 1984 and October 1989 to December 1998 mayor of the city of Velbert. From 1983 to 2002 he was a member of the Bundestag without interruption . In 1983, 1987, 1990 and 1994 he won the direct mandate in the constituency of Mettmann II and in 1998 he entered the Bundestag via the state list of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia. He was also chairman of the Kolping Society in Germany from 1986 to 2004 .

Awards

Heinz Schemken has been honorary chairman of the Kolping Society of Germany since 2004, and in 2010 he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
