The first known canned beer in a birch bark can was found as a burial attachment for the girl from Egtved .
After prohibition was lifted in 1933, beer in metal cans was first bottled on a test basis by the American Krueger brewery . The Krueger Cream Ale was sold from 1935 in tin cans with a special inner coating and had an alcohol content of 3.2%. Due to its success, several types of beer were soon sold in cans and canned beer was introduced nationwide in the United States. The beverage can was first offered in Germany in 1937 by Schmalbach-Lubeca (now Ball Packaging Europe ). The first canned beer in Germany after the war was a " Henninger Export ", which the Henninger Brewery bottled in cans from Schmalbach-Lubeca in 1951. In the same year, several other breweries began to fill their own beer into cans.
