Armando Almánzar Rodríguez
Armando Almánzar Rodríguez (born May 22, 1935 in Santo Domingo ; † July 12, 2017 there ) was a Dominican writer and film critic .
Almánzar is one of the representatives of the Generación del Sesenta, along with writers such as René del Risco Bermúdez , Miguel Alfonseca and Jeannette Miller . He began his literary career in 1963 as a film critic with the Listín Diario and wrote articles about films, radio and television programs in various magazines in the Dominican Republic . In 1966 he took part in the Primer Concurso Dominicano de Cuentos of the La Máscara cultural society and won - alongside Abel Fernández Mejía and Miguel Alfonseca - first prize for his story El gato .
In the following year his first volume of short stories Límite was published . Two of his stories appeared in 1969 in the anthology Narradores Dominicanos by the Venezuelan publisher Monte Avila, alongside works by Juan Bosch , Hilma Contreras , Virgilio Díaz Grullón , Iván García , Marcio Veloz Maggiolo and others, and others in the 1970s in the Antología del Cuento Latino-Americano Contemporáneo and in collections such as I Cactus non temono il vento (2000 in Italy) and Cuentos Dominicanos (2001 in Spain). In addition to several other volumes of short stories, Almánzar published the novels Un siglo de sombras (2003), Desconocido en el parque (2007), Vórtice (2009), Tres novelas cortas (2012) and Enigma - Alicia (2014). In 2012 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Literatura .
