Paul Askonas

Paul Askonas (born November 13, 1872 in Teplitz-Schönau , † November 26, 1935 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

Askonas received his first permanent engagement in 1896 at the city theater of Sankt Pölten . From 1897 to 1904 he played at the Meiningen court theater . In 1904 he came to Berlin to the German Theater there under Otto Brahm .

In 1906 he moved to the theater in Stettin , in 1907 to the German People's Theater in Vienna . He stayed there until 1920. At that time he intensified his work as a silent film actor. Askonas embodied formidable dignitaries such as professors and court presidents, but also sinister characters such as Rasputin and Dracula .

In 1927 he appeared again at the Berlin Deutsches Theater, his last appearances in the 1930s on tour stages.
