Gil Andersen (born September 27, 1879 in Horten , † July 26, 1935 in Logansport , Indiana ) was a Norwegian - American engineer , racing driver and automobile manager.

Anderson was born in Norway and immigrated to the USA, of which he later became a citizen. He took a job as an engineer at the Ideal Motor Company in Indianapolis , the manufacturer of the Stutz automobile (from 1913 Stutz Motor Car Company ). He won the title of (US) American champion in 1913 and 1915.

For the Stutz factory team , Andersen took part in the first six events of the Indianapolis 500 (1911-1916). In 1911 he was the only foreign participant. He achieved his best result in 1915 (third place); In 1912 he started from pole position and in 1916 from third place in the front row. Andersen was only able to finish the race twice (1911 and 1915). He was eliminated three times due to technical defects, once after an accident. In 1913 he led 18 laps, in 1915 he was in the front for 26.

Revere

After completing his work for Stutz, Gil Andersen founded his own automobile company, the Revere Motor Car Corporation in Logansport ( Indiana ), together with the engineer and racing driver Tom Mooney and the industrialist Adolph Monsen, who had previously manufactured automobiles under his own name. . Monsen was responsible for the engines, which were initially purchased from Duesenberg , and headed the company after a reorganization from 1923. Andersen was responsible for the chassis. The company produced sporty luxury vehicles until 1926. Gil Andersen died in Logansport in 1935.
