Fred Zander

Karl Fred Zander (born January 23, 1935 in Cologne , † November 6, 2012 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1972 to 1974 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Education and Research and from 1974 to 1982 Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Youth, Family and Health .

education and profession

After attending elementary school , Zander completed an apprenticeship as a vehicle mechanic from 1950 to 1953 and worked in the profession he had learned until 1958. From 1958 to 1959 he attended the Academy of Labor in Frankfurt / Main and worked there as an assistant until 1961. In 1961 he became head of the economic policy department at the DGB - Hesse region . In 1963 he moved to the press office of the federal board of the DGB and from 1966 was personal advisor to the chairman of IGMetall, Otto Brenner.

Fred Zander was married and had one child.

Political party

From 1964 to 1978 he was a member of the executive committee of the SPD sub-district Frankfurt / Main, and was elected chairman in 1971 after the death of Walter Möller in a vote against Herbert Faller .

MP

On November 3, 1969, Zander replaced Horst Schmidt , who had left the German Bundestag . He was then a member of the German Bundestag until 1990 .

Fred Zander entered the Bundestag in 1972 and 1980 as a directly elected member of the constituency of Frankfurt am Main II and otherwise always through the state list of Hesse .

Public offices

On December 15, 1972, he was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Education and Science in the Federal Government led by Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt . After the resignation of Willy Brandt and the election of Helmut Schmidt as Federal Chancellor, Zander changed to the Federal Minister for Youth, Family and Health in the same position on May 16, 1974. On the occasion of a cabinet reshuffle, he left the government on April 28, 1982.

He is buried in the Hausen cemetery in Frankfurt / Main.
