Andrea Vendramin
Andrea Vendramin (* around 1393 in Venice ; † May 6, 1478 ibid) was the 71st Doge of Venice .
Vendramin was one of the richest Venetians of his time. His family had only been elevated to the status of nobili in 1381 in the course of the Chioggia War . Vendramin held various offices in the service of the republic, was procurator and Venetian ambassador to the Vatican . He was married to Regina Gradenigo .
The Doge's Office
Vendramin was elected Doge on March 6, 1476. During his dogat, the peace negotiations with the Turks were broken. The armed conflicts with the Turks led to the most serious disadvantages for the republic.
Tomb
Vendramin's tomb was created by Tullio and Antonio Lombardo for the Servite Church. After its destruction, the tomb in the presbytery of the Church of San Zanipolo was reconstructed.
