Takashi Ishimoto ( Japanese 石 本 隆 , Ishimoto Takashi ; born April 6, 1935 in Kōchi prefecture ; † March 1, 2009 ibid) was a Japanese swimmer and Olympic participant.

In 1956 he was part of his home country's squad at the Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, where he won the silver medal in the 200 m butterfly . He played his most successful competitions at the Asian Games , where he won a total of four gold medals.

International records

In the second half of the 1950s, Ishimoto set several world records over the 100 meter butterfly. On June 16, 1957, he broke the Hungarian György Tumpek's record in Kurume and improved it by almost two seconds with 1: 01.5 minutes. In the following years he broke his own record four times before losing it to the American Lance Larson on June 26, 1960 .

He held the world record over 200 meters butterfly with 2: 20.8 minutes between October 1, 1955 and March 14, 1956 and with the relay over 4 × 100 meters between September 7, 1957 and July 25, 1958.
