WS "Fluke" Holland (born April 22, 1935 in Saltillo, Tennessee ) is an American drummer and member of the backing band of the country musician Johnny Cash , the Tennessee Three .

Career

The music career of Holland began in 1954 with the record label Sun Records as the drummer for country musician Carl Perkins . He played drums on every Sun Records release of Perkins, including Perkins' hit Blue Suede Shoes . Holland toured in the 1950s with music legends such as Elvis Presley , Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis .

In 1960, Holland became the third member of Johnny Cash's backing band , the Tennessee Two, who called themselves Tennessee Three from then on, alongside guitarist Luther Perkins and bassist Marshall Grant .

Johnny Cash is said to have said to Holland: "I want you to work with me every show I play for as long as I'm in the business" (something like "I want you to play in my band as long as I'm in the business") ). WS Holland did this until 1997, the year in which Johnny Cash had to give up touring for health reasons. For the An All Star Tribute to Johnny Cash concert, he and Marshall Grant returned to New York City for the last time with Johnny Cash in 1999 . Cash died in 2003.
