Moisés Solana Arciniega (born December 26, 1935 in Mexico City , † July 27, 1969 in Valle de Bravo ) was a Mexican racing driver .

Career

Solana started his career at national motorsport events in Mexico. In 1962 he tried to qualify for the Mexican Grand Prix for the first time . The first attempt still failed, in 1963 he made it into the race with a BRM P57 from Scuderia Centro Sud in eleventh place in the qualification. He finished the Grand Prix eight laps behind the winner Jim Clark also in eleventh place. He was the first driver in Grand Prix history to start the race with the car with starting number 13.

In his eight starts in world championship races, points were always beyond the reach of the Mexican. In training he was able to show his talent twice. At the US Grand Prix in 1967 , he finished seventh in the factory Lotus 49 . In Mexico he started the race from ninth place on the grid; At both Grand Prix he had to give up due to technical defects.

He rarely competed outside of Mexico. In 1968 he finished seventh on a Lotus 48 at the Formula 2 race in Madrid .

Moises Solana lost his life in an accident in a hill climb in Valle de Bravo in 1969 . He lost control of his McLaren M6B on a bridge , the car went up in flames and Solana died at the scene of the accident.
