Fernand Bouisson (1931)

Fernand Bouisson (born June 16, 1874 in Constantine , Algeria , † December 28, 1959 in Antibes , Alpes-Maritimes department ) was a French politician .

Life

Bouisson was a Third Republic politician and had been mayor of Aubagne since 1906 . He sat from 1909 to 1940 as a representative of the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the French Chamber of Deputies (Chambre des députés), first for the Independent Socialists ( PSI ), then for the SFIO and finally for the Republican-Socialist PRS . In the second cabinet of Georges Clemenceau he held the office of commissioner for the navy and naval transport in 1918/19.

Bouisson was elected President of the Chamber of Deputies (National Assembly) on January 11, 1927, an office he held with a short break from June 1 to 4, 1935, when he was Prime Minister (Président du Conseil). During his short reign, which ended due to a vote of no confidence, the politicians Pierre Laval , Édouard Herriot , Joseph Caillaux , Georges Mandel and Philippe Pétain were members of his cabinet. At the same time he took over the office of Minister of the Interior until June 7, 1935 . After the popular front won the elections , he had to resign on May 31, 1936 as President of the Chamber of Deputies. He was also President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) from 1928 to 1934 .

Bouisson tried to improve parliamentary work by writing a new principle of electoral law in 1935, the vote électrique (today: vote électronique ). When the government was formed in 1940, he trusted Pétain. He then withdrew from political life.
