from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pasuckuakohowog is a football-like game played by the Native Americans .

Name and field

The name means: "They gather to play ball with their feet". There is evidence that pasuckuakohowog was played in the 17th century, but it is likely that it was practiced much earlier. Wide beaches with a goal distance of up to several kilometers served as a playing field.

procedure

Up to five hundred people were involved in a game. Some games are said to have had up to a thousand participants. The game was reminiscent of some kind of war without weapons. Injuries and broken bones were common. A game often lasted hours and continued the next day. After each game there was a festival in which both teams took part.
