Mylène Demongeot , actually Marie-Hélène Demongeot (born September 29, 1935 in Nice ), is a French actress.

biography

Marie-Hélène Demongeot, the daughter of a Ukrainian, moved with her parents to Paris at the age of 13, where she dropped out of the renowned drama school Cours Simon and took lessons from the actress Marie Ventura . She made her film debut with Léonide Moguy's drama Children of Love (1953) and at the same time graced the covers of various European magazines as a model due to her relationship with the photographer Henri Coste. The breakthrough came from the Belgian film director Raymond Rouleau (born June 14, 1904 - December 1, 1981), who she wrote alongside Simone Signoret and Yves Montand in 1957 for his feature film Die Hexen von Salem (France-GDR joint production), an adaptation of Jean- Paul Sartres, based on Arthur Miller's drama Witch Hunt . The role of Abigail made her known worldwide and brought her a nomination as best young actress for the British Academy Film Award in 1958 and, together with film partner Simone Signoret, the actor's award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival .

After this success she became a sex symbol of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s with international roles. Demongeot was seen as the seductress of David Niven in the Françoise Sagan film Bonjour Tristesse (1958) and played the unscrupulous Lady de Winter alongside Gérard Barray in a two-part play about The Three Musketeers (1961). She now worked mostly for Italian television, where she appeared in Stefano's Big Man series "Steno" Vanzina alongside Bud Spencer . The couple founded the film production company Kangourou , which in the 1970s launched the joint film projects L'explosion (1971), J'ai mon voyage! (1973), The Ruthless One (1974) or Dennis Berry's The Great Ecstasy (1975). In 2001 Demongeot published her autobiography under the title Tiroirs secrets ( Eng .: drawer secrets) .
