Twelve plus one is a comedy film from 1969. The idea was borrowed from the novel Twelve Chairs ( Russian Двенадцать стульев ) (1928, German 1930) by the Soviet writers Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov . The film premiered in Germany on December 25, 1975.
action
The Italian-American hairdresser Mario comes to England to inherit from his late aunt. Besides her shabby hut, she left him only 13 old chairs. He tries to sell them as dearly as possible, but is fobbed off by the saleswoman Pat with a small sum. When he visits his deceased aunt's apartment again before returning to the USA, he finds a letter from which it appears that one of these chairs has valuable jewelry sewn into it.
However, all 13 chairs have since been sold to various customers. Mario and Pat are now chasing after the furniture together, but the bad boys Maurice Markau and Carlo Di Seta are also looking for the prey.
Reviews
“Another variation of the Russian picaresque novel, prepared in differently successful episodes. All in all a turbulent comedy with amusing gags, but not without clichés and lengths. "
“The topic of the hunt for the chair with valuable content ( Thirteen chairs , Germany 1938, directed by EW Emo, with Heinz Rühmann and Hans Moser; Twelve chairs , USA 1970, directed by Mel Brooks, with Ron Moody and Frank Langella) in one little modified, but still amusing and entertaining variant. Nicolas Gessner ( The Girl at the End of the Street ) staged a fast-paced comedy in which turbulent chases, grotesque mix-ups and delicious gags never stop. In addition, the film has an extremely attractive cast. Vittorio Gassman and Sharon Tate play the leading roles with obvious pleasure and comedic verve. Orson Welles, Terry-Thomas, Mylène Demongeot and Vittorio De Sica are also cast in the supporting roles. Welles, in particular, delivers a brilliant number as a provincial theater knatter batch. "
Others
The film was only released after the death of actress Sharon Tate , who was killed by members of the Manson Family in 1969. The plot corresponds roughly to the German comedy Dreizehn Stühle .
