Life

John Annus was born in Riga in 1935 as the son of the painter August Annus . In 1944 the family fled to Germany and emigrated to the USA in 1949 . John Annus studied at the Pratt Institute , where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1958. From 1958 to 1959 he studied at the National Academy of Design . His feeling for space brought him the recommendation of the well-known mural painter Dean Cornwell for the Prix de Rome. Several times in a row he was awarded the residency scholarship at the American Academy in Rome. Returning to New York, John Annus worked, like his father, as a set designer. The fascination for light and theatrical moods increased. John Annus has participated in numerous exhibitions and has had personal exhibitions in Germany, Latvia, Italy, the USA and Canada.
