Architecture and history

The very representative von Reuternsche House, designed in the Baroque style , was built in 1685 according to plans by Rupert Bindenschu on the site of a previous building in which King Gustav II Adolph had stayed.

There were business premises on the first floor of the house, which is structured on its facade with six large pilasters . The family's living quarters were on the second floor. The magnificent portal flanked by columns is remarkable. The facade is crowned by a wide triangular gable.

During the time of the Northern War , Major General Rembert von Funcken lived in the building . The building belonged to the Riga merchant Johann von Reutern , who was important at the time .

In 1893 and 1907 to 1909 the house was renovated. In 1958 the facade was renovated. Further renovations took place after 1985.

Since October 29, 1998 it has been registered in the Latvian Register of Monuments under number 6587 .
