Pit Schubert

Pit Schubert (born December 2, 1935 in Breslau ) is a German non-fiction author , climber and mountaineer. He is the founder and for many years was the head of the security group of the German Alpine Club .

Life

Schubert began mountaineering and climbing when he was 18 . He became known both for his first ascent and first ascents as well as for his alpine textbooks , which today form the technical canon of mountaineering and climbing.

Pit Schubert first completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and then studied mechanical engineering. As a mechanical engineer (Dipl.-Ing. FH) he moved to Munich, where he worked in the aerospace industry for around 15 years. In 1968 he is a founding member of the DAV security group, of which he was chairman until he retired in 2000. Since 1978 he has been working full-time. He is also President of the UIAA Security Commission and has been an honorary member of the UIAA since 2008.
