Emil Ertl

Emil Adolf Victor Ertl (born March 11, 1860 Vienna (Zieglergasse 33), † May 8, 1935 Graz) was an Austrian poet and writer .

Life

Emil Ertl came from a silk weaver family and grew up in Schottenfeld , in the 7th district of Vienna. His brother was Moritz Ertl , who later became Minister of Agriculture . Until 1873 he attended the Marianisches Gymnasium in Amerlingstrasse , after which the family moved to Meran after the widowed mother's remarriage . Ertl studied philosophy in Graz and Vienna ; In 1886 he was worked for Utilitarianism and Positivism - an investigation following Bentham, Mill, Darwin, Spencer and Comte for Dr. phil. PhD. From 1889 Ertl was a library official, later library director at the Graz University of Technology ( Graz University of Technology ) and most recently in this position in Vienna.

Ertl was best known as a writer. Between the two world wars he was a widely read Austrian author. He was friends with Peter Rosegger , who was a role model for him as a poet.

Emil Ertl died on May 8, 1935 at the age of 75 in Vienna and was buried in the Matzleinsdorf Evangelical Cemetery (crypt 155).

His estate is in the district museum in Neubau . Alleys and paths in some Austrian cities, such as Vienna, Wiener Neustadt , Bad Aussee and Graz , are named after the poet .
