Heinz Niederig (born February 11, 1935 in Berlin ) is a German professor of experimental physics with a focus on electron microscopy .

Career

Heinz Niederig studied physics from 1954 to 1960 at the Technical University of Berlin . In his diploma thesis he dealt with nuclear resonance .

He then worked at the I. Physics Institute of the Technical University of Berlin as a scientific assistant to Hans Boersch , where he did his doctorate in the field of electron diffraction at low temperatures in 1965 as a doctoral engineer. As a senior assistant, he researched dynamic electron diffraction and large-angle scattering. In 1970 he completed his habilitation in physics and continued to work as a scientific adviser and professor. 1972 and 1973 he was chairman of the Physical Society in Berlin.

From 1974 he was managing director of the newly founded Optical Institute of the Technical University of Berlin.

In September 1989 he was elected first chairman of the German Society for Electron Microscopy . He later also served as deputy chairman until 1994.

His fields of work include electron scattering and diffraction at medium energies (10–100 kiloelectron volts ) as well as lattice guidance effect , scanning probe microscopy and sputtering . He published numerous scientific articles with the students and employees of his working group.
