The German Society for Electron Microscopy eV is the association of German electron opticians. It was founded in Düsseldorf on February 16, 1949 on the initiative of Bodo von Borries (1905–1956).

When it was founded, the German Society for Electron Microscopy eV (DGE) comprised the three centers of German electron microscopy that had been established by the end of the 1940s : The groups around Ernst Ruska ( Siemens & Halske ), Ernst Brüche ( AEG ) and Bodo von Borries (Society for Übermikoskopie eV).

The first board was composed as follows: Ernst Ruska (1st chairman), Hans Mahl (2nd chairman), Fritz Jung (assessor), Walter Kikuth (assessor), Otto Scherzer (assessor), Bodo von Borries (secretary). One of the later chairmen was Heinz Niederig .

Today, the DGE's tasks include the complex application areas of electron microscopy in all scientific disciplines.
