Karlmann Geiss

Karlmann Geiß (born May 31, 1935 in Ellwangen ) is a German lawyer and was President of the Federal Court of Justice from 1996 to 2000 as the successor to Walter Odersky .

Geiß studied law in Munich and Tübingen. After completing his legal preparatory service and briefly working as a lawyer, he joined the judicial service of the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1964 . From 1966 to 1976 he worked in the Ministry of Justice, first as a personal advisor to Minister Rudolf Schieler , then as a personnel officer. From 1976 to 1989 he was President of the Ulm Regional Court . Before his appointment as President of the BGH, he was President of the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court and also Vice President of the State Court of Justice for the state of Baden-Württemberg . Geiß retired on May 31, 2000. Günter Hirsch was his successor .

In 1997 he received an honorary doctorate from Ulm University . Geiß has been an external member of the Biberach University Council since 2003 .
