Robert Fischer (judge)

Robert Fischer (born August 22, 1911 in Gießen ; † March 4, 1983 ) was a German lawyer and President of the Federal Court of Justice from 1968 to 1977 .

Life

He was the son of Hans Albrecht Fischer, who was a professor of Roman law, civil law and legal philosophy. From 1932 to 1934 he studied law at the Universities of Tübingen , where he became a member of the Igel Academic Association , Breslau and Jena . In 1935 he did his doctorate with Alfred Hueck , to whom he remained connected throughout his life. After completing his preparatory service and second state examination , which he passed in 1938, he worked for the legal department of Deutsche Bank . He took part in World War II as a reserve officer. In 1945 he decided to become a judge . He quickly rose in the judge's career and became regional court director and deputy president of the Göttingen regional court . In 1950 he was appointed federal judge at the Federal Court of Justice. In 1962 he was offered a full chair at the University of Cologne . However, he refused the call and stayed at the Federal Court of Justice, where he took over the chairmanship of the 2nd Civil Senate responsible for company law. On January 1, 1963 , he was appointed President of the Senate . After his predecessor Bruno Heusinger retired , he became President of the Federal Court of Justice on April 1, 1968. He held this office as well as the leadership of the Cartel and Lawyers' Senate until he retired on September 30, 1977. His successor was Gerd Pfeiffer .

In addition to his work as a judge, he has also worked in law and has spoken on a broader basis in academic articles and articles. He also contributed to three major comments and edited one short comment.
