Jeanne Arth
Jeanne Marie Arth (born July 21, 1935 in Saint Paul , Minnesota ) is a former American tennis player . In 1958 and 1959, she won a total of three Grand Slam tournaments in women's doubles.
Arth graduated from Central High School in St. Paul in 1952 and then attended the College of St. Catherine . After she had already won several titles and awards on a regional and national level, Arth began to play international tournaments in 1957. In 1958 she and her partner Darlene Hard won the women's doubles at the US Open with a three-set win in the final against Althea Gibson and Maria Bueno . In the individual competition she reached the semifinals at the tournament. A year later both were able to defend their double title and also won the Wimbledon Championships .
In addition to her tennis career, Arth worked as a teacher and tennis trainer. In 1979 she was inducted into the Minnesota Tennis Hall of Fame and in 1986 into the Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame .
