Peter Reuschenbach

Peter Willi Reuschenbach (born August 24, 1935 in Oberhausen ; † April 10, 2007 in Essen ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Peter Reuschenbach was the son of a miner of the same name, who died before his birth. So when he was eleven he moved to Essen with his mother. After graduating from secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at the Ruhr Mining Association . He then worked from 1953 to 1960 as an employee at Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG .

He had been a member of IG Bergbau since 1953 and later joined the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (ÖTV).

Reuschenbach joined the SPD in 1957. From 1961 to 1970 he was the managing director of the Essen SPD and then worked for Willy Brandt as a speaker for two years until his election to the German Bundestag . He chaired the SPD in Essen from 1982 to 1987.

Reuschenbach was a council member of the city of Essen from 1969 to 1972. After the long-time Lord Mayor of Essen, Horst Katzor , resigned due to illness, Peter Reuschenbach was elected to this office in 1984. In 1989 he did not accept the re-election because there were dissenting votes from his own parliamentary group.

As deputy chairman of the economic committee, he was a member of the German Bundestag from 1972 to 1994. In parliament he represented the constituency of Essen II .

In 1995, Reuschenbach became a representative of Ruhrkohle AG . From 1996 onwards, as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Albania in North Rhine-Westphalia, he performed humanitarian work for the Albanian population. For many years he was chairman of the advisory board of the Ruhr Foundation of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund in Essen. The Peter Reuschenbach House of the AWO , in which he was active, is located on Margarethenhöhe . The first stumbling blocks in Essen , which remember the victims of National Socialism, were laid on the initiative of Reuschenbach.

His final resting place is in the municipal cemetery in Essen- Überruhr .
